Border agent acted accordingly in fatal shooting at border

A Sumas Border Patrol guard was found to have been justified in his shooting of a 20 year old Prince George man back in March.

Jamison Edward Childress had illegally crossed the Canada – US border and had sprayed the border control guard with bear spray before being fatally shot.

Prosecutors say the agent had backed up into a drainage ditch and had repeatedly asked Childress to back down, while warning him that he would have to fire, shortly before Childress unloaded the bear spray and was then fired upon.

The 20 year old had been wanted for a murder charge in the death of an 18 year old Alberta man, and had been found with THC in his system during the fatal shooting.
