UNBC receives honour for green sustainability

UNBC has been named one of Canada’s greenest employers.

Mediacorp Canada made a list for Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2022, and the Prince George University made the list.

“This award recognizes the initiative our students, faculty and staff demonstrate when they develop creative solutions that allow UNBC to continue to be a leader in environmental stewardship,” said UNBC President Geoff Payne.

UNBC has also created the Green University Strategic Task Force to continue building on sustainability.

“This task force will look at sustainability through the triple bottom line lens. Namely, how the decisions we make impact people, the environment and the University’s financial capacity,” said Dr Ronald Camp, task force chair and Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics.

One of the initiatives UNBC gave as an example is the focus on upgrading systems on the Prince George campus to make it more energy efficient, saving over $250,000 over the last two years, and reducing annual electricity usage by 1.7 million kilowatt-hours per year (enough to power about 150 Canadian homes for a year).
