Prince George gets ready for Earth Day with a community clean up

Earth Day is today (Friday), and Prince George is getting ready for the annual Spring Clean Up Day on Sunday.

Terri McClymont with Recycling and Environmental Action Planning Society (REAPS) said they’re encouraging people to team up and clean their neighborhoods.

“It’s working with your friends, your neighbours, your coworkers on one specific day a year. And this year is April 24th, it’s always the last Sunday of April, picking up litter in your favourite walks.”

McClymont said they are looking for people to sign up early on the City of Prince George website, where a registration form is available, and they’ll hand out garbage bags at the City Hall Service Centre for anyone who wants them.

“On that day, the 24th, there are six bins located around town. And there is a map on that registration form to tell you where the bins are located in town.”

She added that they don’t want recyclables, paint, tires, oil, or electronics, noting that there are specific places around the city that will accept that kind of stuff.

McClymont said there will be prizes available to people who participate, and they’re looking to cover every street in PG.
