Well over 300 fire fighters are still fighting the Little Bobtail Lake Fire.
Cool weather and productive days mean the 25,000 hectare fire is now 45% contained.
Fire Information Officer Melissa Klassen says burn off operations have continued on the north flanks of the fire
“We did experience some gusts yesterday, and we could today of up to 40-50 km/hr winds. That’s just the convective activity that comes in through the afternoon. Our mornings are the best time to get our feet on the ground and work really hard to establish any more containment.”
Despite the progress being made, the wildfire branch wants to remind the public that the fire is still very active.
“We’ve been getting some reports of people coming in and out of alert and order areas.” Klassen said “Which is a concern for us, obviously we have a lot of resources out there, over 315 people in and out trying to do their work and people coming in and out of these areas poses safety risks.”
The branch says that crews rely on area roads for operations and escape routes and driving on them in recreational vehicles and trucks endangers the lives of crews. Security check points have now been set up at several points of the fire.
The Regional District of Fraser Fort George has said that they will be leaving the evacuation alerts and orders in effect for at least another 48 hours as the fire is still very aggressive in some areas.
