Underaged and undersized bighorn sheep hunting has been a concern on the Wild Sheep Society of BC’s radar for a while, so now they are hoping to educate hunters.
An event is being held at Trench Brewing on Saturday (April 23rd) that involves a seminar, as well as a documentary.
“This is important to us, this is part of our mandate and our educational aspect. So we are running a seminar throughout the day on how to properly age sheep by a government official (Bill Jex) who’s in charge of that,” said Chief Executive Officer for The Wild Sheep Society of BC Kyle Stelter.
“We’ve got a new film that the Wild Sheep Society of BC has spear-headed, it’s called Transmission. It basically tells the story about wild sheep and domestic sheep, and some of the challenges that wild sheep are facing with regards to the disease.”
The Wilds Sheep Society of BC said Mycoplasma ovipneumoniae, or M.ovi for short, is a bacterium that can cause respiratory diseases like pneumonia in both wild and domestic sheep and goats.
Stelter said they will also have a meal available, a silent auction, a raffle, as well as beer being launched to help support wild sheep conservation.
He added that they may have a couple of tickets left for the event, which can be found on their website.
