BC’s acting deputy Chief Forester, Albert Nussbaum, has increased the annual cut level for Tree Farm License 53, which is near Quesnel.

The previous level, which was set in 2010, was 219,000 cubic metres, and that is now being raised to 240,000 cubic metres.

This decision was made with the input from the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation.

The area also overlaps boundaries of the Lhtako Dene Nation, Nazko First Nation and Tsilhqot’in Nation.

The license is held by Dunkley Lumber, and covers 87,839 hectares.

The area was heavily affected by the mountain pine beetle epidemic that peaked in the mid 2000’s.
