Some of Northern BC’s Emergency Support Services Volunteers will be learning and networking at the NESST Conference this weekend.
NESST is the Northern Emergency Support Services Training Conference, an annual event that started with 50 volunteers in 2013 in Burns Lake.
“It’s grown quite a bit over the years,” said Chair of the Conference Committee, and Founder of NESST Deborah Jones-Middleton.
This year’s conference is a virtual event, due to COVID-19.
“Even though now that the restrictions have been lifted. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to count on that beforehand,” Jones-Middleton explained.
Jones-Middleton said there are a number of workshops during the conference, ranging from self-care, to providing compassionate service to residents evacuated due to emergencies.
“We have someone talking to us about Critical Incident Stress Management training, and talking about the program, and how we might look at developing a program for ESS volunteers.”
The conference starts at 6:00 tonight, and will run throughout the weekend.
