“We held on to the hope of being able to deliver that event in the way it deserved.”
Those were the words of Barker Street Cinema’s Norm Coyne on the cancellation of the 2022 Great Northern International Film Festival.
Coyne said they had lost some volunteers, staff, and sponsorships along the way.
“Rather than postpone it again, we’ve just got to pull the plug, regroup, and hopefully the world will be back to a point where we can actually host these types of events and initiatives next year,” Coyne said.
“It’s kind of a disservice to do the event at a lower level, because it was supposed to be a celebration of the filmmakers and the City of Prince George.”
The festival was scheduled to take place on March 17th, 2022.
Coyne said they haven’t given up on the festival, and they plan on revisiting it when things are back to normal.
