Egg-cellent Food Bank agreement will see more food sunny side up

BC Egg and Food Banks BC came to an agreement, and now food banks across BC will see 50,000 dozen eggs donated in 2022.

“Over the past two years, we donated approximately $750,000 worth of eggs. This year, we wanted to formalize our relationship and be able to provide the food banks with a regular and steady supply of eggs,” said BC Egg’s Chair Gunta Vitins.

Vitins added that farms in the North, the Fraser Valley, Okanagan, and the Island will all be contributing to this agreement.

“The eggs that are donated in Prince George will likely come from our northern farms, so the farmer’s enjoyed being able to give back to their own communities,” said Amanda Brittain with BC Egg.

“With a commitment of 50,000 dozen, it gives the food banks an opportunity to plan, maybe they can put their funds to purchasing other food instead of eggs that week. It’s just easier for everybody.”

Brittain said eggs were being donated because some weren’t being used and they didn’t want them to go to waste, so this helped formalize a relationship with Food Banks BC.
