BC Rugby is looking to get girls interested in rugby

The Prince George Youth Rugby Association is holding a Girls Can Rugby event on March 6th.

This is a provincewide initiative by BC Rugby to get U14 girls interested in playing the sport.

Jeremy Cundy with the PG Youth Rugby Association said they will be posting to social media and handing out flyers to try and build that interest.

“We rented the PG Youth Soccer Association. We’re going to sticking out flyers, we’re going to be hitting the high schools, the elementary schools, everything possible that we can.”

Cundy said rugby can be a great opportunity for kids, and girls could end up with scholarships once they graduate from high school.

“We just want to get girls back interested in rugby. I think covid was a big part of that. It pushed a lot of people away, and we did not play much rugby through covid.”

He added they are going to introduce people to rugby with some games, they’ll throw and kick the ball around, and girls will get the opportunity to tackle the tackle bag.

Something going on in the Prince George area you think people should know about?
