Warm temperatures are being forecasted for Saturday, but the ‘Ice Disco at the Oval’ is moving forward almost as planned.
Event Organizer Kyle Sampson said the ice at the Oval was looking great today (Friday).
“We’re seeing some warm temperatures, but let’s take that as a positive, we don’t have to bundle up quite as much,” Sampson said.
“The amazing people at the ice oval society have been working hard to preserve the ice, they came down at the wee hours of the morning when it was down to a low of -13, and they started doing work.”
Sampson said they’re going to continue working overnight to ensure the ice is good for skating on Saturday.
He added they had to make some compromise with the warm temperatures.
“Rather than starting at 2:00 pm, we’re going to start at 4:00 pm, in an effort to preserve the ice during the warmest hours of the day,” Sampson said.
Sampson, along with the Prince George Hospice Palliative Care Society are hosting the event with the goal of raising $20,000 for hospice.
Food and drink will be available by donation, and there will be music, games, prizes, and fireworks.
Donations can also be made ahead of time here.
