PG records the second highest amount of snow on the ground for Jan.8th

Last night (Saturday) saw about 18-20 cm of snow hit Prince George, and Environment Canada said we’re getting close to some records.

“52 cm of snow was recorded on the ground in the Prince George area. And that actually is the second most snow on the ground recorded for January the 8th, the first being 69 cm set in 1962,” said Meteorologist Jonathan Bau.

Friday also recorded some notable snow with 51 cm, making it tie for 3rd as the most snow on the ground for the area on January 7th.

Bau said we are getting some warm weather this week, but also warns about Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

“Depending on the surface temperature at the time when this front moves through there is a risk of freezing rain associated with this front for Tuesday evening.”
