2021 saw the unemployment rate go down in Prince George.
Analyst for Stats Canada Vincent Ferrao said we almost had half the amount of unemployed people in December of 2021 than we did in 2020.
“So this December we had 2,300 people looking for work, and a year ago there were 4,400.”
“The current unemployment rate (for Prince George), which is a three-month average ending in December, it’s 4.1%,” said Ferrao.
He added that the average for the same time period in 2020 was 7.6%.
The unemployment rate for P.G. in November of last year was 5.4 %.
In B.C, employment held steady for the sixth consecutive month with an unemployment rate of 5.3 % in December.
Canada’s unemployment rate dropped slightly to close the year.
With 55,000 jobs added in December, the national jobless rate fell to 5.9 % compared to 6 % in November.
In addition, more people were working full-time.
Ferrao noted that most of the growth in the country came from Ontario.
“The important thing is we have been seeing growth, but in December it was at a much slower pace than what we saw in November.”
