The extreme cold warning will likely go away later today.
That’s according to Meteorologist Brian Proctor, who had some good news for the Prince George and Vanderhoof areas.
“Winds are beginning to ease, and temperatures are starting to moderate, so that extreme cold warning will likely expire with the morning issue of the forecast at 11am today.”
Proctor added that the big dump of snow forecasted earlier this week will likely hit areas south of Prince George.
“I wouldn’t be surprised to see sort of maybe 5-8cm in total by end of day on Thursday. Not heavy snow by any means, but still enough to cause a little bit of difficulty out there.”
Proctor said we should expect temperatures between -20 to -25 through Friday, but Saturday has a high of -13, Sunday has a high of -5, Monday and Tuesday have highs of -2 to -1.
“So we’re starting to see some moderation finally with this arctic air mass as we shut it off into the Rockies where it really belongs.”
A period of very cold wind chills continues for P.G. plus Stuart – Nechako, Chilcotin, Lakes District, and McGregor.
According to Environment Canada, cold temperatures combined with light to moderate northerly winds will continue to give wind chill values near minus 40 this morning (Wednesday).
