The Fire Pit in Prince George has a warming station set up for the homeless community in collaboration with the Prince George Nechako Aboriginal Employment and Training Association (PGNAETA).
Angela Carter with Positive Living North said they’ve run out of warm winter attire to hand out, and are looking for donations.
“Any kind of hats, mitts, blankets. We could definitely use more, we’ve actually used all of our hats and mitts that were donated, we’ve given them all out. We could use some matts for the warming station.”
Carter added that things like hot chocolate are also appreciated, noting that Panago had delivered over 80 pizzas to the drop-in centre on New Year’s Eve.
“We have on average about 40-50 people every night who have been accessing the warming station.”
The warming station on 3rd avenue runs everyday until Sunday (8pm-8am on weekdays, 9am-5pm on weekends) but Carter said they may need to extend it if the cold weather keeps up.
“It definitely could be extended based on the temperatures. So if it is cold like it has been, anything below I would say -21 we are definitely looking at keeping the warming station open.”
