UNBC Associate professor eyeing PG trustee spot

Dr. Shannon Freeman believes she is the right fit to take the PG-riding during the School District 57 by-election set for January 15th.

The Associate professor at UNBC has experience teaching at the elementary, junior high, and post-secondary levels, spanning nearly two decades.

Freeman told MyPGNow.com with all the issues surrounding the district right now, it was best to be proactive than reactive.

“I thought I couldn’t sit by and passively watch what continues to occur in our region. I am a mom of three by-racial children and I can identify with the experiences of racism our children have and continue to experience in our schools.”

“As a parent, I identify with that culture of fear to speak out and speak up and I know lots of other parents must be feeling this across the district.”

She added her platform is pretty simple.

“I really truly believe that every kid should be able to experience in a culturally safe and supportive environment that meets their needs and I think we celebrate our success and things we are doing well as well the teachers who are having an amazing impact.”

Freeman has also sat on the board of the Prince George Hospice Society for six years.

Other candidates running in the PG-riding include Brian Trotter, Milton Mahoney, Audrey McKinnon, and Andrew Burton.
