Changes being proposed in the B-C Government’s new education bill are not sitting well with the local School Board.
The B-C Liberal’s Education Statutes Amendment Act – or Bill 11, is looking to make changes that will, as the government puts it, reduce district overhead costs.
District 57 Trustee Sharel Warrington says the amendments affect the autonomy of local school districts:
“Just through the amendments as they are written, the Minister has greater authority over local decisions than it otherwise would have been without those amendments”
Warrington says the Education Minister could appoint a special advisor to guide the district’s decision.
Bill 11 is currently going through debate within B-C Legislature.
