A UNBC professor is encouraging you to plant a garden this Summer, looking to help out a familiar little friend.
As bees begin to pollinate, you can do your part to help keep populations strong and many species of plants alive and well.
Ecosystems Science and management professor Dezene Huber says there are many ways to support the bees:
“If you are really gung-ho you can set up little houses for solitary bees, and set up little houses for bumble bees to encourage them to set up shop in your yard, give them a place to live, and to raise the next generation as well”
He says eliminating the use of pesticides is also key, as you may be affecting the bees without knowing it.
Huber also mentioned how important the animals are, as they are a vital part of the symbiosis of the ecosystem and must continue to be supported.
