PG charging waste disposal trucks to offset increased maintenance costs

Shelley Lagoon, a sanitary sewer lagoon, will start to increase the cost to truck haulers to fund the maintenance of the lagoon.

Haulers currently pay a yearly access fee, and most of the maintenance costs are covered by city property owners.

The increase in traffic and volume of waste being deposited has increased over the years, and now a new system will be implemented in the new year to cover costs.

The new amendment hasn’t gone through its final reading yet and will be brought up in a future city council meeting.

Starting in 2022, truck haulers will be charged based on how much material is being deposited, and the cost will grow over time to meet the eventual required fee of $45 per cubic metre.

From 2022 to 2024, haulers will be charged $22.50 per cubic metre, from 2025 to 2027 that number will rise to $33.75 per cubic metre, and then will be raised again to $45 per cubic metre in 2028.
