More ophthalmology services in the North are being advocated by one doctor.
Northern Health’s Vice President of Medicine Dr. Ronald Chapman says while there are no vacancies in Northern BC, the current number is less than what is needed.
Chapman says that there are some cases where people go five months before seeing a specialist for eye diseases.
“But we’ve heard from some people, that some people are just waiting to see an ophthalmologist can wait sometimes upto two years to get an appointment.”
Chapman says currently there are only ophthalmology services in Terrace, Fort St. John and Prince George.
He says there needs to be creative work done to make capacity for eye doctors in the North.
Something going on in the Prince George area you think people should know about?
