CRA warning of phone and email scam

If you get a call from the Canada Revenue Agency, make sure its from them.

The CRA is warning you of a phone and email scam that is making the rounds.

Spokesperson Simrat Bains says the scammer is posing as a CRA official and looking for personal information.

“For example they can seek information about a credit card or bank account or passport number,” says Bains, “especially for the emails there is going to be a link which resembles one for the CRA’s website, and its gonna seek information, your personal information.”

Bains says if this does occur to ask yourself if you are seeking additional money, does this sound too good to be true, and why someone is seeking your personal information.

She says if you have given out your personal information, you can call the non-emergency line for the RCMP.
