Keep your pumpkins indoors; BC Conservation Office trying to keep Halloween bear-free

With Halloween just around the corner, the BC Conservation Officer Service wants Prince George residents to keep their Jack-O-Lanterns inside away from hungry bears.

Eamon McArthur is the acting Sergeant for the Omineca Region who explains why this is a necessary step.

“You are leaving a food source outside of your house. Everybody likes putting their pumpkins, their Jack-O-Lanterns out and we just hope that people will be responsible and obviously you don’t want your pumpkin taken by a bear.”

“We are still in that hyperphagia. They are still trying to get that last bit of food so we want to give them as little opportunity as possible to move into residential neighborhoods.”

He adds bears are still rushing to get those last few calories in before hibernation.

McArthur reminds residents to call the RAPP line if they see any potential bear encounters that pose a risk to public safety.
