The Community Arts Council (CAC) and Trinity United Church are asking the City of Prince George to help fund their renovations and transition into a concert hall.
During tomorrow’s (Monday) council meeting, the CAC and church will be giving a presentation and asking for $5,000.
They’ve already applied for other grant funds as well, receiving $5,000 from The United Church of Canada, and requesting $20,000 from the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, as well as $10,000 from the Prince George Community Foundation.
City Councillors dealt with a similar ask in the last council meeting, with St. Michaels Church looking to do a similar transition.
Councillors were hesitant to get involved, as the City already gives churches a tax exemption.
The Arts Strategy for the city is also still in the works, and many Councillors wanted to see the Arts Strategy before more funding was thrown at a project.
Trinity United Church’s presentation states that it hopes the information given in the documents will aid the Arts Strategy.
That’s far from the only discussion on funds in tomorrow’s agenda, as the City will also be talking about its Monthly Building Permit Summary, Quarterly Consultant Spending Report, Procurement Quarterly Report, the Four Seasons Leisure Pool and Fire Hall No.1 demolition, and connecting the Ramada hotel to the Downtown Renewable Energy System.
