Jubilee Lodge COVID-19 outbreak declared over ; visitation limited at UHNBC

The COVID-19 outbreak at the Jubilee Lodge has been declared over by Northern Health after claiming the lives of six residents.

In total, there were 24 cases among residents and three staff cases associated with the outbreak, which was declared in early September.

Two of the residents that passed away had epi-linked cases, meaning they came in close contact with a confirmed case and exhibited symptoms.

Infection prevention and control remains an important focus at all NH long-term care facilities, including Jubilee Lodge, to limit the risks from COVID-19 to residents, staff, and physicians.

Meanwhile, at UHNBC, Northern Health is implementing full safety measures throughout the facility, which means only essential visitors will be allowed in any department or area of the hospital.

These measures are being taken in light of the two active outbreaks in inpatient units and the overall increasing numbers throughout the community.

Essential visits include those for compassionate care, including at end of life, and visitors accompanying patients with physical care or mental well-being needs.

Enhanced outbreak control measures are already in place on the Primary Care Medical, and Internal Medicine Units in response to the two, unrelated outbreaks.

For further protection, UHNBC is expanding measures to the entire facility, including all patient care areas and public spaces.

UHNBC patients and visitors should watch for information and directional signage posted within the facility.
