Residents sent to the doghouse in upcoming Humane Society fundraiser

The Prince George Humane Society will be hosting its 2nd annual “In the Doghouse Kennel Lock-in” fundraiser event next Saturday, October 16.

Angela McLaren, Prince George Humane Society Executive Director says the organization is hoping to raise $35,000.

“Basically what it is is, the community nominates people to get locked up with an animal at the shelter, and basically they’re tasked one goal which is to raise enough money for their adoption fee which is basically their bail,” she explained.

The fundraiser allows participants to safely social distance in their own designated kennel with a dog or shelter cat, an act that highlights the importance of animal shelters.

McLaren says community members are also challenged to match the necessary funding required to “bail” the participant out.

She says the funding helps the organization in a number of ways.

“Obviously we do a lot of work in the shelter but we’ve also got programs that we’re currently developing. One of the main reasons we use this funding is we always want additional funding to help with some of our medical bills,” McLaren added.

She adds the pandemic has put a strain on fundraising efforts over the past year and a half.

To enter “In the Doghouse Kennel Lock-in” or to nominate someone for the event, visit the Prince George Humane Society website.
