The rodeo is coming back to PG as the Prince George Western Heritage Society will be hosting the competition at the CN Centre Rodeo Grounds on June 17-19.
Over the course of the weekend, there will be the seven standard rodeo events: Saddle Bronc, Bareback, Bull Riding, Barrell Racing, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping and Tie-Down Roping.
Kevin Cunin, President of the Western Heritage Society says the event will be the biggest rodeo in Prince George in over a decade.
“We’re going to bring back the biggest western event in Prince George that we’ve seen here, probably in the last 15 years. We’re bringing back the rodeo to town,” he said.
The Western Heritage Society is expecting to see about 450 participants from all over the place.
“We’re going to have some contestants probably from all of the western provinces, we might be getting some from the states,” Cunin added.
Additionally, a slot barrel racing jackpot will be happening on Friday night and a cabaret with live music will take place the following evening.
“It’s going to be a full family event so we’ve got food there, there’s going to be an entertainer and the entertainer is the rodeo clown that we’re bringing in is actually the first rodeo clown to win entertainer of the year down in Las Vegas at the Indian National Finals Rodeo,” he said.
He adds the rodeo announcer that is being brought in is one of the most well-known announcers in all of Canada and the United States.
Cunin says the rodeo won’t be a one-time thing, as the Society is hoping to host it once a year.
