Election Day has arrived in Canada and today people can vote for who they want as a representative as a Member of Parliament.
Prince George is divided into two ridings, the Cariboo- Prince George, and Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies.
To find out which riding you belong to and where you can go to vote you need to enter your postal code on the Elections Canada website.
To cast a ballot, voters must be at least 18 years old and be able to prove their identity and address.
Elections Canada accepts multiple forms of ID at the polling stations, a list of approved IDs can be found here.
If you aren’t registered to vote, you can do that at a polling station as well or call 1-866-499-8023 in Cariboo-Prince George or 1-866-546-7616 in Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies.
Polls opened at 7 this morning (Monday) and will remain open until 7 this evening, Pacific time.
Elections officials are warning there could be lineups at times….with COVID-19 rules about face masks and physical distancing in place.
BC Transit is offering its services for free all day to get people to the polls, this includes their HandyDART service.
If you plan on taking a selfie to mark the occasion, just know that taking photos of a marked ballot or compromising the secrecy of your vote is illegal.
Meanwhile, it could be a few days before the results are finalized.
Officials won’t begin to count mail-in ballots until tomorrow (Tuesday).
More than one-and-a-quarter million mail-in ballot kits were sent out.
Across Canada, nearly 5.8 million electors voted in the advanced polls.
That includes over 17,000 in the Cariboo-Prince George riding and over 16,200 in Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies riding, numbers that are up considerably from the 2019 Federal Election.
