Theatre Northwest brings in new talent for upcoming productions

Three new Artistic Associates have been hired at Theatre Northwest to develop some of the theatre’s new projects and aid in the company’s artistic development.

Anna Russell, Melissa Glover, and Bradley Charles have been hired to work in various roles with upcoming productions, they will also be working to facilitate new community outreach programs.

Some of these works include adult acting programs, theatre shows around the city, and professional development opportunities for local artists.

“Part of our outreach and part of our goals for moving things forward is to develop new plays written by people from Prince George and people from this region in BC,” Russell explained, “and what that will kind of look like for our organization I think it’s nice to have material on the stage that your audience can feel connected to.”

Russell added it’s great for playrights to have shared experiences with their audience to create a connection between them.

“We have a few playrights that have experiences from Prince George or BC and we’re working them to develop drafts then hopefully new plays.”

While they have been able to host stage readings and present other work in a pandemic-friendly manner, Theatre Northwest hasn’t really been able to produce a lot of work for about 16 months, and all three Artistic Associated say they’re extremely happy to get this opportunity to work.

“Instead of working in an office by ourselves, we’re working as a team and talking about ideas and developing things that we couldn’t come up with on our own, so it’s really exciting,” said Bradley Charles.

Theatre Northwest will be announcing its plans for the full season later this month, along with more details on its new outreach programs.

On September 24th, Theatre Northwest will be presenting a stage reading of Smoke Sturgeon which is created by Solomon Goudsward, a Northern BC local.

Additionally, Drop-in Sewing times are available from 6-9 pm every Tuesday starting September 21st to October 26.

The company ensures all productions will be in compliance with public health orders, more information on current Theatre Northwest activities can be found online.
