Sizing up classrooms in BC

A new report on classroom size doesn’t show the whole picture according to the teacher’s union.

On Friday the BC Government released details that of the total number of classes in BC, 41% have fewer than 24 students.

Prince George District Teachers Association President Tina Cousins says while class size is not an issue in Prince George, class composition remains an issue.

“Classrooms that have more than three 1701 designated ministry students in those classrooms,” says Cousins.

The government also says that the transition rate for students entering grade 12 has increased but Cousins finds that hard to believe.

We did reach out to Minister of Education Peter Fassbender, but he was unable to comment.
