UNBC’s Community Care Centre is facing a possible closure.
The space on 3rd Avenue offers counselling services and does practicum for 6-8 students a year.
Dean of Arts, Social and Health Sciences Blanca Schorcht says the centre is currently being operated with soft funding.
“In particular the salary for the senior lab instructor Ryan James,” says Schorcht, “who has coordinated the programming that is done out of the centre, and this particular year we have no further soft funding to continue that position.”
Schorcht says there are possible sustainability models they are looking at that could help keep the centre open.
She says it costs less than $90,000 to run the centre a year.
