The Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Patricia Boulevard was vandalized with the phrase “Every Child M” spray-painted on the front doors.
According to police, the Prince George RCMP received the report of vandalism right before 4 am yesterday (Wednesday) morning.
Investigators now believe the vandalism occurred between 11:00 p.m. on August 24 (Tuesday) and 1:00 a.m. on August 25 (Wednesday).
Police are looking for any witnesses to this crime or for anyone who might know the individual or individuals involved. If there is anyone in the area who has surveillance or noticed unusual activity around the church between those hours, please contact the Prince George RCMP by calling 250-561-3300 to speak with police,
states Cpl. Jennifer Cooper of the Prince George RCMP.
This report comes after a string of church vandalisms and one arson was reported at various churches throughout the community.
Cooper says that while they don’t have any suspects at the moment, the nature of the incident indicates that it may be related to the ongoing church vandalisms occurring across the country.
“Based on the text that was left it does appear to be in the same spirit of other vandalism that we’ve seen here in Prince George and around the province,” she added.
One person was recently arrested following a previous incident at Sacred Heart, and a charge of theft under $5,000 was recommended.
RCMP say they are continuing to do proactive patrols around places of worship in Prince George to curb the ongoing vandalism incidents.
Additionally, some churches have taken the extra step of hiring private security to conduct their own patrols.
