Safe Streets Bylaw will be discussed in Monday’s PG city council meeting

Monday’s Prince George City Council meeting is going to be a big one.

The agenda for the meeting starts off with presentations from the BC Assembly of First Nations, Together We Stand, and the Millar Addition Connaught Concerned Citizens Committee.

Each of these presentations is due to the Safe Streets Bylaw being discussed later in the meeting, which would potentially see loitering and soliciting being outlawed in the city.

The topic was last brought up at June 28’s council meeting and was pushed back to August 30th to get feedback from the populace.

All of the correspondence listed for the evening also revolves around the Safe Streets Bylaw, with people sending in letters of support for the bylaw.

A letter from the Mayor of Whistler asking Mayor Lyn Hall to request the Government of Canada to declare the opioid crisis a national public health emergency was also included in the correspondence.

Another topic on the table includes a petition to the provincial government to implement no barrier housing options in BC communities.

An outlined guide and roadmap for the stormwater management plan are also on the agenda.

In the last city council meeting on August 16th, it was estimated that the project could result in a 4% increase in taxes.

The city will be looking for feedback on the stormwater project from Prince George residents sometime in September.

The renaming of O’Grady Road will also be discussed.

The meeting starts at 6 PM, there is limited seating available in the council chambers and viewing room, but the meeting is also available via live stream.
