The PG Fire Centre sees fire activity stabilize

According to the Prince George Fire Centre (PGFC), there’s not much change to the current fires in the area.

That being said, Sharon Nickel with the PGFC says winds are expected to pick up in the area, but moisture is also expected to follow.

She also took the opportunity to explain the difference between an Evacuation Alert, Order and Area Restriction.

“An Area Restriction is put in place by the BC Wildfire Service to prohibit access to areas where there’s ongoing fire suppression activities occurring,” said Nickel.

She adds that Evacuation Alerts and Orders are recommendations by BC Wildfire Service that are put into place by the regional districts, and all of them need to be followed.

“There has been some resistance to leave provincially and doing so puts public safety at risk but it also puts the first responder life and safety at risk as well.”

There are 248 active wildfires in BC, 53 are in the PGFC, and three of those are considered of note.
