Local businesses to benefit from new UNBC program

A new program is attempting to reach out to prospective students and employers in a unique working and study partnership.

The new UNBC continuing studies certificate program will see employers paying full tuition and living expenses for the student, while the student will be working at the sponsoring business and will be paid during a work term in the summer.

Business Development officer Garth Frizzell says this benefits both parties greatly:

“There are students out there who are trying to decide between going into the workforce, or going into university and at the same time there are employers out there who have hard to fill positions or high turnover positions and they are looking for these types of students”

He says 7 businesses have already committed.

The pilot project will kick off this September, with businesses encouraged to contact Frizzell at 250-960-5103 if they are interested in becoming involved.
