The Warriors Walk for Healing Nations, a movement that started in the Yukon, arrived in Prince George for a couple of days.
A small group of people from the Northern Nations Alliance started walking from Whitehorse a month ago (on June 26), and have been making their way to Kamloops.
“Northern Nations Alliance is a completely volunteer group that does respond to crisis. Sometimes that crisis may be fire, sometimes that crisis may be flooding, and in this circumstance, it was the response to the 215 children that were discovered in Kamloops,” said Jacqueline Shorty, member of the Northern Nations Alliance.
The group started out as just three people, and they’ve been picking up more in their journey.
They’re now a group of 16, and they’ve travelled 1,800 KM so far, roughly 60 KM a day.
They’re taking a moment to rest today and tomorrow in Prince George, and in that time they’ve been meeting with people in the community.
Lheidli T’enneh Chief Dolleen Logan met with the group and has shown support for the movement.
“With everything that has been going on, it’s been extremely emotional, and I would be honoured to follow you guys into Kamloops,” said Chief Logan.
The Warriors Walk for Healing Nations hope to meet more communities and have more people with them when they finally reach Kamloops, which they hope to reach by August 9.
