Wildfire smoke season is here, and the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) has recommendations to help limit the inhalation of smoke.
They say those who are most affected by smoke are:
- people with chronic lung/heart disease
- pregnant women
- infants and young children
- older adults
The BCCDC recommends people buy a portable air cleaner that uses a HEPA filter for their homes.
Libraries, community centres, and shopping malls often have filtered air as well.
If you work outdoors, WorkSafe BC has resources you can review here.
You can use the Air Quality Health Index to help monitor smoke in your area, and you can check the predicted smoke impacts over the next 72 hours.
Wildfire smoke contains fine particulate matter (PM2.5) that can be inhaled deep into the lungs and cause inflammation and irritation. Learn how to prepare for wildfire smoke: https://t.co/Im6NEHZQ28 pic.twitter.com/wmoNVzwSw6
