A new coach has been named for the Prince George Spruce Kings.
Chad van Diemen, who has spent the last six seasons as Associate Head Coach and Assistant General Manger with the Powell River Kings, has signed a two year contract with the team.
“It’s always tough to leave a place, I mean we were in the middle of recruiting there and to come up here and all of a sudden its spring camp time,” says van Diemen, “I wasn’t quite ready for that, but I think its great to come in and jump in with both feet and get right into it.”
Spruce Kings General Manager Mike Hawes says they were looking for a young guy to take over the team.
“Someone who can come in and work within the structure that we have with the Spruce Kings,” says Hawes, “operating with a board (of directors), Chad’s familiar with that having done that in Powell River.”
van Diemen compiled a 205-122-35 record with the Powell River Kings in his seasons as assistant coach.
