Finding solutions to youth mental health problems are being sought by the BC government.
The Select Standing Committee on Children and Youth has launched its second phase of its project examining this issue.
Stikine MLA and Deputy Chair Doug Donaldson says they’ve wrapped up a series of consultations around the province that shows where the problems are.
“For instance a 15 year old girl from a rural community who waited 11 months to receive treatment for an eating disorder,” says Donaldson, “those are some of the basic ones, but we also know that there are wait lists for getting into treatment for trauma for children.”
Donaldson says they plan to meet with service providers this spring to come up with solutions.
Donaldson says 1 in 8 youth in BC experiencing mental health problems.
