A teacher with the Northern Medical Program has found the number of falls amongst Aboriginals is falling.
UBC Associate Professor Anne George has been looking into why there has been a higher injury incidence rate for B-C Aboriginals than the rest of the population.
George says the rates have decreased by 49%.
“We have noted that the Aboriginal population fall rates are just falling amazingly,” says George, “and they are falling faster than the total population of BC.”
The rate of falls for the total BC population has declined by 34.9%.
George says they don’t have a specific reason why the rates are falling, but thinks its because conditions are improving for BC’s Aboriginal population.
