Prince George fire crews deployed to battle Manitoba wildfires

Prince George Firefighters have been called to action to help fire crews in Manitoba battle several active wildfires.

43 personnel from across BC are being sent to help, including 41 firefighters and two support staff.

This includes seven different three-person initial attack crews from the Prince George Fire Centre, Northwest Fire Centre, Kamloops Fire Centre, and the Southeast Fire Centre.

The three-person crews being sent from the Prince George Fire Centre are from both the Prince George Zone and the Robson Valley Zone.

Katrine Conroy, Minister of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development says COVID-19 precautions will be taken to protect the health of everyone participating, both during their time in Manitoba and on their return to this province.

“Given the current fire situation in British Columbia, we have sufficient resources in place to respond appropriately to wildfire activity here,” added Conroy.

Manitoba fire crews are currently dealing with multiple out of control fires, including two that started up two weeks ago and have since burned 2,200 square kilometres of land.

Additionally, one 20-person crew from the Kamloops zone will be joining the efforts.
