Easter weekend road safety

Easter weekend is here and ICBC is urging caution on the roads.

“In our area in the North Central region, 17 people are injured in 130 crashes every year over the Easter long weekend.” ICBC’s Diana Pozer says

Pozer added that vehicle maintenance is key and you should give yourself extra time on the roads to compensate for the extra traffic you will encounter.

“It’s fine to take your winter tires off now.” Pozer says “It’s good to swap them over for an all season or at least a good condition tire that is properly inflated, just make sure your tires are in good shape.”

With spring here, more and more motorcycles are on the roads and you should remember to give them plenty of space.

Today ICBC road safety speaker Greg Drew addressed local high school students at the Centre for Learning Alternatives. Pozer says they are trying to install good habits early.

“Every year we have a lot of schools taking us up on this offer. It’s a really great program that the schools really embrace. We know that it’s working because we hear from the students and teachers.”

The road safety speaking tour has already been throughout the Caribou and will be heading north next week and throughout the Bulkey Valley later in the month.
