The Prince George Airport is pleased air traffic control services will be maintained at their facility.
Today (Thu). Nav Canada decided to keep control towers at eight cities across the country including the northern capital.
YXS President and CEO, Gord Duke told MyPGNow.com the service will continue to play a vital role in the airport’s success.
“The efficiencies gained when we get busier are key in how we control the operation for both our commercial customers as well as other customers like Medivac and tanker base. The active air traffic control will be really key to maintaining safe operations in and out of Prince George.”
Duke believes the efforts of many kept the tower in place.
“Politicians, civic leaders stepped up to the plate and really went to bat for us on this because it was their voices I believe that really resonated with Nav Canada and forced them to take this action.”
“There was a lot of lobbying, a lot of people raising concerns and we are happy that they have responded accordingly.
In December, Mayor Lyn Hall and city staff wrote a letter in support of the Airport Authority to keep its control tower.
Last fall, Nav Canada launched 29 aeronautical studies in an effort to streamline operations.
