Chamber hopes to connect local businesses and post-secondary students

A webinar aiming to build relationships between post-secondary students and local businesses will be hosted by the Prince George Chamber of Commerce.

Scheduled for April 22, the “Today’s Challenges – Tomorrow’s Talent” webinar will focus on ways to use student talent to innovate, save costs, and increase capacity.

“In today’s COVID-impacted landscape, student talent can provide the short-term labour that businesses need to remain competitive while also contributing to a future skilled workforce,” said Chamber CEO Todd Corrigall.

Corrigall says it will be held in partnership with UNBC, CNC, and Talent Forward — and the webinar will provide information on post-secondary student talent programs being offered, like co-ops, apprenticeships and practicums.

“Finding affordable labour and building a strong talent pipeline continues to be a major focus for businesses in Prince George. For businesses, bringing in student talent makes sense – it’s a way for businesses to benefit from the energy, skills, and productivity that a student can bring while also investing in the employment skills for the future,” he explained.

Attendees will also hear about how local Prince George businesses have benefited from using student talent.

Participants will gain a clear understanding of how to recruit for their organization as well as learn about funding incentives and subsidies offered for hiring students.

The webinar is open to all Prince George-based businesses and will be held on April 22, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm.
