Outdoor patio fees waived to help local restaurants weather pandemic restrictions

Prince George is temporarily waiving outdoor patio permit costs for local restaurants and pubs for the next three weeks.

Dr. Bonnie Henry announced on Monday that restaurants were temporarily not allowed to provide indoor service, however, they can continue with patios or takeout.

In an effort to help local restaurants, cafes and pubs make the transition, the city made the announcement today (Wednesday).

The temporary permitting requirement fees will be on hold until April 19, to be reassessed based on provincial guidelines.

Meanwhile, the approval process will be streamlined, the city says, in order to get businesses up and running faster.

Local restaurants that want to set up temporary street or sidewalk patios are asked to apply for a temporary street occupancy permit here.

In addition to the permit, applicants will still need to provide drawings of the temporary patio/sidewalk structure and any works that disrupt traffic (vehicles, cyclists, or pedestrians) will require a traffic plan appropriate for the work in accordance with Worksafe BC.
