Avalanche Canada renews warning of snow pack dangers

After another two avalanche deaths this past weekend, Avalanche Canada is again warning about the dangers of the current snow packs.

The unusual winter weather has created complex and unpredictable snow conditions due to several different layers of ice and snow,

Karl Klassen of Avalanche Canada warns back country users, saying they should be prepared long before they hit the trails:

“I think its important to talk about planning your trips so you don’t need safety equipment in the first place. The place to start your trip plan is to come to avalanche.ca, and check the logs and the forecast there and make sure that you have the information you need so you can make an informed decision about when it’s appropriate to travel”

Klassen says some equipment is vital, like an avalanche transceiver, probe and shovel. He says you’ll also need training and practice with them before heading out, as you won’t have much time if someone is buried.

Something going on in the Prince George area you think people should know about?
