One piece of art at a time, these youth are hoping to shine a creative light on the issues that affect them most.
The Access to Media Education Society is hosting the ChARTing Change Art Contest – an open invitation for youth to share their visions for a better tomorrow through art.
Organizer Ivy Edad says the contest is to remind youth that their voices matter.
“It encourages youth to take the energy they have left in this pandemic and use it to create art on the change they want to see in the world,” she said.
Submissions tackle a wide variety of issues including pandemic isolation, missing and murdered Indigenous women, and queer representation.
Edad says the contest is open to youth 14-18 across the province and encourages submissions from ‘all over.’
“It’s about being creative, it’s not something attached to school, it’s not something attached to things they have to do. It’s attached to something they are passionate about.”
Through the contest, they hope to reach and connect B.C.’s future change leaders, she added.
The winners will be showcased in classroom workshops created to start a dialogue around discrimination.
