Camp workers at Parsnip Lodge, a Coastal GasLink site represented by UNITE HERE Local 40, have ratified a standard-setting union contract with Horizon North.
Parsnip Lodge is also the first unionized camp on the Coastal Gaslink pipeline.
The agreement includes wage increases of up to 47% over the next two years, 100% employer-paid health care benefits, and a travel stipend.
Most employees will receive between $5 to $7 immediate wage increases.
The agreement with Horizon North covers frontline workers who cook, clean, sanitize, and maintain the Coastal GasLink pipeline camp.
The union bargaining committee achieved their first two-year collective agreement after workers formed a union last year and engaged in months of bargaining during the pandemic.
“I’m proud that Parsnip Lodge workers were able to come together and win this contract. As a Prince George local living in a city where the cost of living is skyrocketing, I’m just making enough to cover the bills. Now I have extra money in my pocket to better support my 16 and 17 year-old sons,” said Cindy Poitras, General Helper at Parsnip Lodge.
This new agreement comes after LNG janitors in Kitimat recently won a 3-year contract, which saw them gain a 40% wage increase by the end of the deal.
