The 5-year journey of a local missing senior kitty has come to an end after the BC SPCA returned him to his rightful owners.
‘Noir”, a 12-year-old black cat with big yellow eyes and a kink in his tail, was found wandering near the airport when he was brought into the SPCA in Prince George.
“Someone brought him in and we checked him for ID and he had a tattoo, but it was hard to read at first so we thought it might be another cat based on the tattoo then we gave it another try,” explained Dr. Alex Schare, Manager of Animal Centre Services.
He says the SPCA was able to connect with the actual family, who didn’t believe it could actually be Noir at first.
“The family was really surprised to get the phone call because he had been missing for years,” explained Schare,” she said it might be him but he had one very specific feature, a kink in his tail.”
Dr. Schare was ecstatic when he was able to tell Noir’s owner that the cat in question had a kink in his tail as well, and was pretty sure they had a match at that point.
In a Facebook post on ‘Hell Ya PG’, Noir’s owner said he went missing on November 16th, 2015.
Noir was in pretty good condition, according to Dr. Schare, and believes someone was probably taking care of him during his 5 years as a street cat.
“If he was on his own then he did really well-taking care of himself,” added Schare, “unfortunately Noir couldn’t tell us the story of his adventure but it sure would be interesting to know.”
Schare says this is a perfect example of why it is so important for pet owners to get identification for their pets, whether it’s a tattoo or microchip.
