Lexi Augustson-Cormack turned 21-years-old just a week before losing her life in an accident to a traumatic head injury on January 28th.
The paramedics and doctors at Prince George hospital were able to get her heart beating after 45 minutes of resuscitation but was declared brain dead shortly after the incident.
Her family soon received notice that Augustson-Cormack had filled out an organ donation form and on February 1st, she underwent organ donation surgery, saving the lives of 5 people.
“My sister Lexi lived her life selflessly, always helping someone who needed it. She has an amazing heart that always looks for the good in people,” said sister, Amanda Augustson-Cormack,” she cared about creatures big and small.”
Augustson-Cormack’s parents are facing a $3,500 bill for cremation and at least $5,000 in legal fees, these expenses don’t include funeral and memorial related expenses.
Amanda explained that her parents still have 6 children at home between the ages of one-and-a-half and 16, and recently bought a house in Prince George that they’ve been fixing up.
“My family is going through unimaginable grief, a huge piece of our lives is gone,” added Amanda,” the last thing any parent needs in this time is to worry about the finances of losing your child. ”
Lexi’s sister has started a fundraiser to help their family with her cremation and funeral costs, as well as an estate lawyer and legal fees, all while continuing to care for their 7 remaining children.
As of today (February 9th), the GoFundMe page titled ‘Honouring Lexi Augustson’ has raised $8,070 of the $10,000 goal.
