The annual Operation Christmas Child Shoebox campaign hosted by Samaritan’s Purse International Relief has come to an end.
Communities across BC packed 46,066 shoeboxes with toys, hygiene items, school supplies, and other items with Prince George contributing 1,634 of them.
The charity has already started distributing the boxes, and children in Central America and western Africa will be receiving the 373,188 shoeboxes packed from across Canada within the next few weeks.
Tens of thousands of additional boxes were sent using the online tool, Packabox.ca.
“Each shoebox that someone fills is an opportunity to show hurting children that they are loved by God and by us, and the gifts Canadians have provided will once again bless children—many of whom have never before received a present,” said Randy Crosson, director of Operation Christmas Child Canada.
During the 27-year long tradition, Samaritan’s Purse has provided children in over 130- countries impacted by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine or disease over 186 million gift-filled boxes.
“Given the tremendous pandemic challenges all of us faced in 2020, we are extremely thankful to Canadians—many of whom are unemployed or facing economic uncertainty—for their generosity in continuing to support this program,” added Crosson.
Many children that received a box will also be enrolled in the charity’s bible study course by the name of ‘The Greatest Journey’.
